Dr. Mohit Kumar Kolay, Ph.D.
Professor of Industrial Engineering & Management
Dr. Kolay holds the position of Professor of Industrial Engineering & Management at UGSM-Monarch Business School. Dr Kolay is also Professor & Head of the Management Department of the University of Fiji as well the Coordinator of its newly established MBA program. Before assuming this position, Dr. Kolay was the Dean of the Business School at Sohar University, Oman. He has also been on the faculty of University of the South Pacific, University Technology Mara, Malaysian Institute of Management and Indian Institute of Technology. Dr. Kolay holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur and a M.Sc. in Computational Finance from the University of Essex in the U.K. He also holds a post-graduate degree in Production Engineering from Calcutta University.
During his twenty-eight year academic career, Dr. Kolay has published more than forty papers in top international journals such as International Journal of Operations and Production Management, International Journal of Production Economics, Management Decision and Productivity among many others. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India. His area of interest lies in management with an intersection of operations, accounting and finance.
Dr. Kolay returned to the academic field after spending ten years consulting with various manufacturing and service sector organizations in different countries. As an engineer, he spent time in cost control, cost reduction and modernization program with a major steel company in India as well as in the loans and advances control area of two major Indian banks.
All of Dr Kolay’s cross-cultural and cross-stream teaching and learning experiences have shaped his core teaching philosophy:
“Each student has a unique learning ability and a good teacher is one who can understand that and be flexible enough to adjust his or her teaching and delivery style to suit the situation. A productive student-teacher duo does not just rely on the student for the learning process—the teacher too must adapt and learn.”
It is this philosophy which has enabled Dr Kolay to successfully guide numerous students at Bachelors, Masters as well as Ph.D. level.
